The ArcGIS Server for the Java Platform setup process consists of two parts, the installation and the post installation. On completion of the setup, you will also be required to perform some manual steps using the Windows operating system tools.
The installation is the setup process where you determine what features you would like to install. The setup program will install the files required for these features.
The post installation is the setup process that completes the ArcGIS Server for the Java Platform installation process. In the post installation setup, depending on what features you chose to install, you will be able to Configure ArcGIS Server and Authorize ArcGIS Server. The Configuring ArcGIS Server option will set up the required ArcGIS Server accounts. The Authorize ArcGIS Server option will authorize ArcGIS Server for use. See the post installation setup section for more information.
To successfully install ArcGIS Server for the Java Platform, both the installation and post installation must be completed.
Note: The Windows Installer requires the System account to have full control of the system drive and the target drive.
Choose the installation steps for your configuration:
If the following products are installed on your machine and are a version previous to 9.3, they must be uninstalled before proceeding with the ArcGIS Server for the Java Platform setup.

ArcInfo Workstation
ArcReader standalone
ArcIMS
ArcIMS Web ADF for the Java Platform
ArcIMS Web ADF for the .NET Framework
ArcGIS Server for the Java Platform
ArcGIS Server for the .NET Framework
ArcGIS Server Web ADF Runtime for the .NET Framework
ArcGIS Engine Runtime
ArcGIS Engine Developer Kits
ArcGIS Desktop Developer Kits
ArcGIS Image Server (and all clients)
The ArcGIS Server for the Java Platform setup will display a dialog if conflicting versions of these products exist on your machine. If so, you must uninstall these products, then run the ArcGIS Server for the Java Platform setup again to proceed with your installation.
These products, if they are all version 9.3, can exist together on a single machine.
