Performing a typical installation

In this installation scenario, all available installation features are installed on one machine. This includes Server Object Manager (SOM), Server Object Container (SOC), Application Developer Framework (ADF), Developer Documentation, and ArcGIS Applications and APIs Shortcuts. These installation features are preselected in the setup program.

How to prepare to install ArcGIS Server 10 for the Java Platform

  1. Obtain an authorization file for the machine on which you will be installing ArcGIS Server 10 for the Java Platform.
  2. Verify that your site meets the system requirements. For system requirement information, see Step 1: Verify system requirements.
  3. Log in as a user with administrative privileges.
  4. Close all applications on your computer.
  5. Insert the ArcGIS Server 10 for the Java Platform media into the appropriate drive to automatically launch the setup program.

NoteNote:

ArcGIS Server 10 for the Java Platform requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or higher. You must obtain and install Internet Explorer 7 or higher prior to installing ArcGIS Server 10 for the Java Platform.

How to install ArcGIS Server 10 for the Java Platform

  1. During the installation, read the license agreement and accept it, or exit if you don't agree with the terms.
  2. The ArcGIS Server 10 for the Java Platform setup program allows you to select the features you want.

typical install

By default, the features of a typical ArcGIS Server 10 for the Java Platform installation are selected to be installed. A typical installation includes the features most commonly installed on one machine. For more information on these features, see the Overview and ArcGIS Server site configuration topics.

The ArcGIS Server 10 for the Java Platform installation consists of a collection of features and subfeatures. An example of a feature is Server Object Container (SOC), which consists of one subfeature, Python. Features consisting of subfeatures have a plus (+) or minus (-) sign to their left. The plus sign expands the feature so that you can view its subfeatures. The minus sign collapses the list of subfeatures. To install other features, see Installing ArcGIS Server overview. Python is a subfeature of the server object container. If Python 2.6.X and Numerical Python 1.3.0 are already installed on your machine, the Python feature will be available for installation, but Python 2.6.5 and Numerical Python 1.3.0 will not be reinstalled.

  1. To complete the installation, follow the directions on the screen.
  2. Complete the post installation setup.

    After completing the ArcGIS Server 10 for the Java Platform installation, you are provided with the opportunity to begin the post installation setup. The following post installation options are required to successfully complete a typical ArcGIS Server 10 for the Java Platform installation:

    Configure GIS Server

    Authorize GIS Server

    These post installation setup options are automatically selected for you.

  3. After completing the post installation setup, you must complete the additional steps manually using the Windows operating system tools. See Additional configuration steps using operating system tools for more information.
