Pin a connection to Start

If there is a connection that you often open, and you want to be able to open the app to a Map Hub focused on that connection, pin the connection to Start. The connection appears as a tile on the Start screen of your app, and tapping that tile opens a Map Hub for the connection.

CautionCaution:

The connection's Map Hub has most of the same layout and functionality as the main Map Hub. For details, see The Map Hub. However, when opening a connection from a tile on the Start screen, you are taken to a Map Hub focused on the particular connection. You will not have access to the settings panel, and will instead have an about panel with the connection's name and description. To access the main Map Hub, reopen the application from its tile or entry in the device's programs list.

When you pin a connection to Start, it is a window into the application. Unlike maps pinned to the Start screen, it shares settings with the main application. For example, if you sign out of your account in the pinned connection, you are also signed out of that connection's account in the main application.

To pin a connection to Start, take the following steps:

Steps:
  1. Open the main application and go to the Map Hub.
  2. Swipe to the settings panel.
  3. Tap connection.

    The connection page displays.

  4. If you have not already added a connection to the online geographic information system (GIS) you'd like to pin to the Start screen, add that connection. For more information, see Add a connection to an online GIS.
  5. Tap and hold the connection you want to pin to Start.

The context menu for managing connections appears.

    NoteNote:

You cannot remove the currently used connection.

  6. Tap pin to start.

The connection is pinned to Start as a tile, and the Start screen displays, scrolled to the location of the connection's tile. As part of the Windows Phone design, tiles flip occasionally, displaying content on both sides. For the connection tiles, the connection's thumbnail is shown on the front of the tile. The back of the tile displays the name of the connection and uses the phone's accent color as the background.
