Add a connection to an online GIS

Online geographical information system (GIS) systems, such as ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Online for organizations, and Portal for ArcGIS, host maps that you can open on your Windows Phone device. To see the available content, connect to the ArcGIS for Windows Phone application to an online GIS.

TipTip:

Some online GIS systems contain publically viewable content, while others require you to sign in to see any content. Others have a mixture of publically and privately available content. If connected to an online GIS where you have an account, sign in to access all of the content available to you.

NoteNote:

While you can also use the application to access content on a mobile content server, the maps stored there don't have the same connection and account experience. For more information, see Connect to a mobile content server.

By default, ArcGIS for Windows Phone is connected to ArcGIS Online. However, you change the application's connection to that of an organization or portal by taking the following steps:

Steps:
  1. Open the ArcGIS application on your Windows Phone device.
  2. If prompted, specify if the application is allowed to access your location.

You are taken to the Map Hub, a panorama with access to maps and settings. By default, you are connected to ArcGIS Online. If this is the desired connection, skip the rest of the steps.

  3. To add a connection to an online GIS you haven't used previously through the application, swipe to the settings panel.
Settings panel of the Map Hub.
  4. Tap connection.

The CONNECTION page appears. On this page, you can see what online GIS you are currently connected to, as well as manage and connect to other online GIS systems.

  5. Tap add on the app bar to add a new connection.

    The Connect page displays.

  6. Type the uniform resource locator (URL) of the online GIS you want to connect to. You can also type the user name and password for your account for that online GIS if you want to connect and sign in to the online GIS. The user name and password are optional fields.
  7. If you want your user name and password remembered, select the Remember me? check box.
  8. Tap accept on the app bar to create the connection and connect to the specified online GIS.

You are returned to the CONNECTION page that shows you are now connected to the specified online GIS. The application remembers this connection and uses it the next time you open the app.

When you return to the Map Hub, if you are connected to an online GIS other than ArcGIS Online (such as ArcGIS Online for organizations or Portal for ArcGIS) you will see the name of that connection underneath the ArcGIS heading.
