You can configure the dashboard for your map by adding and removing dashboard gadgets. Each gadget is configured to show information about one or more attributes for a feature layer. This feature layer can be based on an ArcGIS Server feature service, or can be stored in the map. For the dashboard to be available, you must have one or more feature layers in your map.

You can add a number of different types of gadgets to your dashboard, each of which is described in its own topic. These include:

When you configure a gadget, you specify a feature layer whose attributes you want to display in the gadget, the attribute or attributes of interest, and some statistical operator such as sum or average.

Gadgets can show the value of a single feature or the aggregate values from multiple features. Gadgets can also be configured to allow for comparison between features. Gadgets that are configured as comparison gadgets are shown side by side. The gadget on the left shows the values for the selected feature or features, and the gadget on the right shows the values for the feature the pointer is currently over. The comparison gadget makes it possible to quickly compare a number of features against a benchmark. (The benchmark may be cumulative in the case of multiple selected features.) In the following example, the comparison is using a pie chart, the benchmark county is Penobscot, and the pointer is currently over Cumberland County. Both pie charts show the relationship between renters and owners.
