Add and configure an indicator gadget

An indicator gadget depicts the state of the value of a certain attribute against some target value. For example, an indicator might depict the average monthly sales for points representing retail outlets against an expected minimum revenue value. For those features where this value falls under the target value, the indicator shows a negative and the value:

The comparison to the target can be one of the following:

When a single feature is depicted, that feature’s value for the source attribute is considered when compared to the target. In cases where more than one feature is selected, an aggregate of the values of the source attribute across the features is compared against the target. This aggregate can be:

To add an indicator gadget

  1. On the Dashboard panel, click the Add button (+). The Add Dashboard Gadget dialog box appears.
  2. Click the Gadget drop-down arrow and choose Indicator.
  3. Click the Layer drop-down arrow, choose the layer whose values will be displayed by the gadget, then click OK.

  4. On the Configure Indicator dialog box, specify the properties for your gadget:
    • In the Title box, type a title that will be displayed above the gadget.
    • In the Caption box, type a caption that will be displayed below the gadget.
    • Click the Style drop-down arrow and choose the visual style of indicator icon that will depict acceptable and unacceptable values, for example an up arrow and a down arrow, or a tick and a cross.
    • Click the Acceptable Color and Unacceptable Color drop-down arrows and choose colors to display values that are considered acceptable and unacceptable.
    • Click the Name Field drop-down arrow and choose an attribute field that will be displayed above the gadget when it represents the values for single feature.
    • Click the Value Field drop-down arrow and choose an attribute field whose value will be compared to the target value.
    • Click the Comparison drop-down arrow and choose the type of comparison to make between the attribute value and the target value. For example, if you choose Greater than, attribute values that are greater than the target value will be displayed as acceptable, and attribute values less than or equal to the target value will be displayed as unacceptable.
    • In the Target Value box, type the target value that the attribute value will be compared against.
    • Click the Operation drop-down arrow and choose the operation to apply to the attribute values shown in the gadget if more than one feature in the layer is selected. The operation is not used when only one feature is selected.
    • If you want this gadget to display as a comparison gadget, check the Display comparison gadget check box.

  5. Click OK to close the dialog box.

The new gadget is added to the map dashboard. Click on a feature in the configured layer to update the values shown in the gadget.
