Execute a query

If the map you are working with contains a query, you can run the query and see its results directly on the map. A query may be created during a session and used on an ad-hoc basis immediately after you've created it or you can create a query and then save the map, allowing the query to be stored in the map for later use by yourself and others. The available Queries in a map are listed in the Queries panel on the left side of the screen. The results of a query display each time you execute it; however, the results are not persisted when you save the map, only the query itself is saved.

To execute a query

First, open a map which contains queries.

  1. Click the Queries button on the Mapping toolbar to show the Queries panel in the left side panel.
  2. In the Queries panel, click the Execute button next to the query that you wish to run, or double-click the query.
  3. The next action will depend on the type of query you have chosen to execute:
    • If the query is a simple query containing hard coded parameters, then the query is immediately executed, and once complete the results are displayed on the map and in a panel which appears on the right of the screen

    • If the query is parametric (in other words, if it prompts for input) a dialog box in which you can supply requested input will appear. Fill in any requested input parameters, and click Execute. The query is then executed, and once complete the results are displayed on the map and in a list which appears on the right of the screen
