Installing ArcSDE for PostgreSQL on Windows

Installing ArcSDE creates a directory (referred to as SDEHOME) that contains library files, administration command utilities, ArcSDE Administration Command Reference documentation, ArcGIS Server help, and database-specific scripts. It also sets the SDEHOME variable in your system path.

Follow these steps to install ArcSDE for PostgreSQL on Windows.

NoteNote:

If you install ArcSDE on a different server than the PostgreSQL database cluster, you must copy certain files from SDEHOME to the PostgreSQL server. See Installing PostgreSQL and ArcSDE on separate servers for instructions.

Steps:
  1. Log in as a user with administrative privileges to the server on which ArcSDE will be installed.
  2. Close all applications on your computer.
  3. Access the ArcSDE installation files.
    • If you have a DVD, place it in the appropriate drive.
    • If you have an ISO image, use an ISO extractor to access the files.
  4. Double-click the ESRI.exe to start it.
  5. Click ArcSDE for PostgreSQL to launch the installation wizard.
  6. During the installation, you will be asked to read the license agreement and accept it or exit if you do not agree with the terms. If you exit, the installation will terminate.
  7. Follow the rest of the directions in the setup wizard to complete the installation.

After ArcSDE is installed, create a geodatabase.
