Adding a CAD layer from a layer package
Layer packages (.lpk) contain layer files (.lyr) and a copy of the data. You add CAD data from a layer package by first unpacking its contents then dragging the CAD feature layers directly into your map.
Steps:
- In a Catalog window, right-click the layer package file, and click Unpack on the shortcut menu.
- Browse to a folder, and click OK to unpack the data.
- Drag an unpacked layer or the entire CAD dataset into ArcMap.

Adding CAD data to ArcMap automatically creates a group layer for each CAD dataset and enables additional property tabs for managing the display of the underlying data.
