Adding a CAD layer from the Search window

The Search window provides a quick way to find and add CAD data that is stored in one or more folder connections. Your folder connections must first be indexed using the Indexing Options dialog box from the Search window.

Steps:

1. Click the Search window button .
2. Click the Data category to narrow your search results.
3. Type the word CAD to search for all CAD files registered in your index and click the Search button .
   • Or enter specific criteria such as DWG, DGN, or the filename to narrow your search results.
4. Drag your CAD data into ArcMap.

Note:

Adding CAD data to a map automatically creates a group layer for each CAD dataset and enables additional property tabs for managing the display of the underlying data.
