Editing the image server configuration file

LegacyLegacy:

ArcGIS 10 is the last release of the stand-alone ArcGIS Image Server product. The image service definition (.ISDef) has been replaced by an improved geodatabase data model—the mosaic dataset—which can be published as an image service using the ArcGIS Server Image extension.

You must add a server in the Image Server Manager before you can edit its configuration. You must have write access to the server configuration file.

Steps:
  1. In the Image Servers list, click the server name of the server you want to edit.
  2. Click the Edit The Server Configuration button Edit the server configuration.

The Server Configuration dialog box appears.

  3. Optionally, check the Activate authentication check box to activate the authentication of users.
  4. Optionally, type the computer names or the IP addresses in the Server manager allow list text box to specify computers that may connect to and manage the server.

    • This allows the specified computers to start or stop the image service.
    • Separate each computer name or IP address using commas.
    • You can type an asterisk (*) to specify that all computers are allowed, but it is not recommended.

  5. Optionally, type the computer names or IP addresses in the Service provider allow list text box to allow these computers to be used as service providers for the server.

    • This feature is used to restrict the computers that can communicate with the server and use existing licenses.
    • Separate each computer name or IP address using commas.
    • You can type * to specify that all computers are allowed, but it is not recommended.

  6. Type the computer names or IP addresses in the Service editor allow list text box to allow these computers to edit image service definitions.

    • This feature is used to restrict the computers that can connect as image service definition editors and use the available licenses.
    • Separate each computer name or IP address using commas.
    • You can type * to specify that all computers are allowed, but it is not recommended.

  7. Click OK to save the changes.

The changes will take place once the server is restarted.

NoteNote:

  • If any components are installed on the server machine, the computer name or IP address does not need to be specified in any of the lists. Service Editor and the service providers will have access to the server and ArcGIS Image Server license when they are installed on the server machine.
  • In Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP, by default the server logs are saved in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ESRI\Image Server\Logs\Server.
  • In Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 the server logs are saved by default in C:\ProgramData\ESRI\Image Server\Logs\Server.
  • A new log file is created each day.
