About the ArcGIS Image Server AutoCAD client
You can directly connect to and view an image service created by ArcGIS Image Server using various client applications. Each client application accesses and works with the image services in a similar manner. The applications supported with ArcGIS Image Server clients include
- ArcGIS Desktop 9.1 and 9.2 (ArcMap, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGlobe)
- AutoCAD 2000, 2000i, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011
- MicroStation 8.05 and 8.09 (XM)
- MapInfo 8.0, 8.5, 9.0, and 9.5
- GeoMedia Professional 6
There is also a stand-alone client application, Image Server Viewer, which is installed by default with each of the client applications.
You can use the AutoCAD client to
- View image services, service properties, and associated metadata.
- Explore image data by panning and zooming.
- Access metadata information and the properties of the image service, returned images, and rasters used to generate the image service.
- Modify image service properties, such as the mosaic method, spatial reference system, resampling method, compression for transmission, and background color. In some cases, you may have to export the data from the image service to use it as input data for analysis.
- Save the image data to your disk by specifying the extents and pixel size to be exported and the file format in which it should be saved (such as TIFF, JPEG, and JPEG 2000). The maximum volume (and extent) of exported image data is controlled by the administrator of the image service.
The clients are available for download from the ArcGIS Resource Center's Imagery Samples Gallery.
The ArcGIS Image Server AutoCAD client is a plug-in tool that works with AutoCAD versions 2000, 2000i, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 as well as vertical add-on applications from Autodesk built on these versions. The AutoCAD client enables you to connect to ArcGIS Image Server, retrieve the map (image) of the extents of either a specified window or the current display, and attach it to the AutoCAD background display.
You need to install VBA support for AutoCAD to use the AutoCAD client in AutoCAD version 2009, 2010, and 2011.
