Working with custom toolbars

Several toolbars are provided with ArcPad, but you can also create custom toolbars to organize commands that you commonly use together or to contain buttons that run your custom scripts. Custom toolbars can be added to applet and default configuration files but not to layer definition files.

Creating a custom toolbar

Steps:
  1. Create or open an applet or default configuration file.
  2. Click the Toolbars button Toolbars on the standard toolbar.

    The Toolbars dialog box appears.

  3. Click the Add button.
  4. Type a name for the toolbar in the Name text box.
  5. Type a caption for the toolbar in the Caption text box.
  6. Click the Browse button to select an image file for the custom toolbar, or select one of the default tool images from the combo box.
  7. Uncheck the Visible check box if you do not want this toolbar to be displayed initially in ArcPad.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click OK on the Toolbars dialog box.

Renaming a custom toolbar

You can rename custom toolbars (those created with the Add button in the Toolbars dialog box), but you cannot rename default toolbars.

Steps:
  1. Create or open an applet or default configuration file containing at least one toolbar.
  2. Click the Toolbars button Toolbars on the standard toolbar.

    The Toolbars dialog box appears.

  3. Click the toolbar you want to rename, and click the Edit button.
  4. Type the new name for the toolbar in the Name text box.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click OK on the Toolbars dialog box.

Changing the caption of a custom toolbar

You can change the captions of custom toolbars (those created with the Add button in the Toolbars dialog box), but default toolbars have no captions.

Steps:
  1. Create or open an applet or default configuration file containing at least one toolbar.
  2. Click the Toolbars button Toolbars on the standard toolbar.

    The Toolbars dialog box appears.

  3. Click the toolbar with the caption you want to change, and click the Edit button.
  4. Type the new caption for the toolbar in the Caption text box.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click OK on the Toolbars dialog box.

Changing the image of a custom toolbar

You can change the images of custom toolbars (those created with the Add button in the Toolbars dialog box), but default toolbars have no images.

Toolbar images are optional. If an image is selected, it will appear to the left of the toolbar.

Steps:
  1. Create or open an applet or default configuration file containing at least one toolbar.
  2. Click the Toolbars button Toolbars on the standard toolbar.

    The Toolbars dialog box appears.

  3. Click the toolbar with the image you want to change, and click the Edit button.
  4. Click the Browse button to select a new image file for the custom toolbar, or select one of the default tool images from the combo box.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click OK on the Toolbars dialog box.

Deleting a custom toolbar

You can delete custom toolbars (those created with the Add button in the Toolbars dialog box), and, from ArcPad 8 onwards, you can also delete default toolbars.

Steps:
  1. Create or open an applet or default configuration file containing at least one toolbar.
  2. Click the Toolbars button Toolbars on the standard toolbar.

    The Toolbars dialog box appears.

  3. Click the toolbar you want to delete, and click the Delete button.
  4. Click OK.
