Installing ArcGIS Server for the Java Platform overview
The ArcGIS Server for the Java Platform setup consists of a setup process where you determine what features you want to install. The setup program will install the files required for these features.
Installation guidelines
- ArcGIS Server cannot be installed to the same location as any other ArcGIS product.
- No other ArcGIS product can be installed as the ArcGIS Server user.
- If ArcGIS Server is installed on a machine, you will only be able to install another ArcGIS product in single user mode (not in multiuser mode).
To install ArcGIS Server for the Java Platform
Choose the installation steps for your configuration:
- Performing a typical installation
- Installing the server object manager
- Installing the server object container
- Installing the Application Developer Framework
Setup log files are generated in the root user's home directory. The two setup log files generated during installation are ArcGISServer_InstallLog.log and ArcGISServer_InstalledFeatures.log.
Uninstalling other ArcGIS products
If the following products are installed on your machine and are a version previous to 10, they must be uninstalled before proceeding with the ArcGIS Server for the Java Platform setup:
- ArcInfo Workstation
- ArcReader stand-alone
- ArcIMS
- ArcGIS Server
- ArcGIS Server Java ADF
- ArcGIS Engine Runtime
- ArcGIS Engine Developer Kit
The ArcGIS Server for the Java Platform setup will display a message if conflicting versions of these products exist on your machine. If so, you must uninstall these products, then run the ArcGIS Server for the Java Platform setup again to proceed with your installation.
