Installing ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .NET Framework overview
Installation of ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .NET Framework has been separated into two separate setups. The diagram below details the steps necessary to install and configure ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .NET Framework.
1. Install ArcGIS Server 10 - GIS Services.
The ArcGIS Server 10 - GIS Services setup program is one of two that comprise ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .NET Framework. The GIS Services setup includes Server Object Manager (SOM), Server Object Container (SOC), Python, Services Manager, and Web Services (SOAP, REST). See Installing GIS Services for more information.
2. Complete the post install
The post install launches automatically at the end of the ArcGIS Server 10 - GIS Services installation. See Post installation overview for more information.
3. Complete manual system configuration steps.
After completing the post install, several steps are required to manually configure the operating system. See Additional configuration steps using operating system tools for more information.
4A. Use ArcGIS Server.
After completing steps 1–3, ArcGIS Server is ready for creating, publishing, hosting, and managing GIS Services. If you plan to develop or manage Web applications, proceed to step 4B.
4B. Install ArcGIS Server 10 - Web Applications.
The ArcGIS Server 10 - Web Applications setup program is one of two that comprise ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .NET Framework. The Web Applications setup includes Applications Manager, Web Applications Developer Framework, and ArcGIS Web API Shortcuts. See Installing Web Applications for more information.
5. Use ArcGIS Server.
ArcGIS Server is ready for developing and managing Web applications. Additionally, with GIS Services installed, ArcGIS Server is configured for creating, publishing, hosting, and managing GIS services.
Uninstalling other ArcGIS products
If the following products are installed on your machine and are a version previous to 10, they must be uninstalled before proceeding with the ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .NET Framework setup:
- ArcGIS Desktop
- ArcInfo Workstation
- ArcReader standalone
- ArcIMS
- ArcIMS Web ADF for the Java Platform
- ArcIMS Web ADF for the .NET Framework
- ArcGIS Server for the Java Platform
- ArcGIS Server for the .NET Framework
- ArcGIS Server Web ADF Runtime for the .NET Framework
- ArcGIS Engine Runtime
- ArcGIS Engine Developer Kits
- ArcGIS Desktop Developer Kits
- ArcGIS Image Server (including all clients)
The ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .NET Framework setup will display a message if conflicting versions of these products exist on your machine. If so, you must uninstall these products, then run the ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .NET Framework setup again to proceed with your installation.
These products, if they are all version 10, can exist together on a single machine.
