Invite someone to join a group
Once you've created a group, you may want to extend an invitation to colleagues to join the group in order to work cooperatively or share each other's maps. Others may join the group by sending you a request upon discovering the group. Another scenario may involve working with a group you've created that must be designated as private. A private group is one which other users cannot find; users can join the group by invitation only. However, as the owner of a particular group, irrespective of the group access level, you can always invite users to join it.
To invite users to join a group
- In the home screen, click the Groups tab and in the My Groups list, select the group that you'd like to invite users to join. You must be signed in to use the Groups tab.
- Click the Invite Users button, shown in the main panel of the home screen when you select the group. This will open the Invite Users dialog box. You can only invite users to join a group that you own.
- In the Invite Users dialog box, search for the users that you'd like to invite by typing a user name in the search box at the top of the dialog box. Note:
Use ArcGIS Online user names. If your account is associated with an organization in ArcGIS Online, you may be able to invite only other users within your organization, depending on how your administrator has configured your access.
- When the user you wish to invite is shown in the left-hand list of users, click the name to copy it into the right-hand list of users to invite.
- When you are done, click the Send Invitation button to send an invitation to each of the users in the right-hand list.
If the user then accepts the invitation, they will then become a member of the group, and they will be listed in the membership list for this specific group.
You can remove a user from a group by clicking the red cross next to the user's name in the membership list.
