Setting ArcGlobe to open with default layers you provide

ArcGlobe has the option for you to consume your own layers that you have created as the default content. A benefit to creating user-defined content for default layers is that you'll have two sets of default layers you can toggle between: the online default layers from ArcGIS Online and your own locally available layers. You can always reset the user-defined default layers to meet your current needs. It also means you can use any of the online basemaps for ArcGlobe as your default document. It would just require that you maintain an Internet connection.

The steps below outline how to customize your choice of default layers to use your own content. Be sure the layers you want to use are already displayed in the document. To set up the user-defined default, you must create a snapshot of the layers currently in the table of contents.

Steps:

1. Click Customize and click ArcGlobe Options.
2. Click the Default Layers tab.
3. Check Use my choice of default layers.
4. Click Make Default Layers From Current Document. This captures the layers currently in the table of contents as your default layers.
5. Click OK.
Open a new ArcGlobe document to see your updated default layers.

Tip:

• The user-defined default layers option is also a way to bring back the coarse default layers that ship with ArcGlobe. By opening the ArcGlobe document from your ArcGIS installation directory (<install_dir>\ArcGlobeData), you can follow the steps above to use these layers as your default ArcGlobe background.
