Exporting imagery from an image service in ArcMap

The data you receive as a client from an image service can be exported as a raster dataset and saved on your local system. You may need to save this data to use it in GIS analysis applications. You cannot export the raw data used to create the service; you can only export the data you receive as a client—that is, the processed raster data. You can save this data into TIFF, JPEG 2000, JPEG, and PNG file formats. The maximum size of images saved is controlled by the administrator.

Export Image Properties dialog box

Field

Description

Set the extent to

  • Current View Extent—The current visible extent of the image service.
  • Default Extent of Image Service—The bounding extent of the image service.
  • Custom Extent—User-defined extents.
  • Selected Graphic's Extent—This option is displayed only if a graphic defining the area of extent is marked on the screen (map) using graphics on the Drawing toolbar and is kept selected before bringing up the Export Image Properties dialog box. If you have multiple graphics selected, the extent is a union of all graphics.

Extents

  • Top—Topmost y-coordinate of the set extent.
  • Left—Leftmost x-coordinate of the set extent.
  • Right—Rightmost x-coordinate of the set extent.
  • Bottom—Bottommost y-coordinate of the set extent.

Width

Width of the exported image, expressed in the units of the data frame.

Height

Height of the exported image, expressed in the units of the data frame.

Columns

Number of columns of pixels in the exported image.

Rows

Number of rows of pixels in the exported image.

Ground pixel size X

Size of the pixels at ground level in the x direction.

Ground pixel size Y

Size of the pixels at ground level in the y direction.

Format

Format of the exported image. You can choose TIFF/TFW no compression, TIFF/TFW-JPEG, TIFF/TFW-LZ77, JPEG, JP2, and PNG.

Tile size

Size of internal tiles in the exported image for TIFF images only.

Compression quality

Quality of the compression. A compression quality of 100 percent is the best.

Approx MB

Approximate size of the image in megabytes. This is a read-only field.

File name

Path and name of the exported image. By default, the name is Untitled.
