Reshaping features that share edges
The Reshape Shared Edges tool allows you to reshape the shared edges of coincident polygon and polyline features without the restrictions of editing one pair of topology nodes at a time. This tool allows you to use either a selected polygon or set of contiguous polylines or digitize a new edit sketch line as the source for reshaping shared edges across nodes. Reshape Shared Edges improves productivity when reshaping shared edges and reduces time-consuming edits. It also ensures that features that need to be coincident remain coincident. For example, this tool can be used for reshaping a section of a coastline, and a set of coincident polygon and polyline features in various feature classes, in a single operation.
- Start ArcMap.提示:
If the ArcMap - Getting Started dialog box appears, you can open a new or existing map document. You can also check the Do not show this dialog box in the future check box and click Open.
- On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Production Editing.
-
Click the Production Start Editing button on the Production Editing toolbar.
注意:
The Manage Features and Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes windows automatically appear when you start an edit session using the Production Start Editing tool.
提示:If the Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes window does not appear when you start an edit session, click the Show/Hide Attributes button on the Manage Features window.
- On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Nautical.
-
Click the Reshape Shared Edges button on the Nautical toolbar.
The Reshape Shared Edges Configuration dialog box appears.
Every line feature class and its subtypes are listed, even if those feature classes are not loaded into the current map document.
提示:If the Reshape Shared Edges Configuration dialog box does not appear, you can set the Reshape Shared Edges Show Config property to True in the nautical properties.
- Check the check boxes next to the feature classes and subtypes that you want to reshape.
- Optionally, you can click Save as Default if you want to keep these as your default selections.
- Optionally, you can check the Don't show this dialog again check box if you do not want to repeat this configuration step the next time you run the tool.
-
Click OK to close the dialog box.
If you do not have all feature classes in the database loaded as layers in your map session, a dialog box appears asking you if you would like to add all the missing layers. It is recommended that you have all the layers loaded so you can view the reshaping as it affects all the layers in the area being reshaped.
The Reshape Shared Edges dialog box docks next to the Table Of Contents window. You can select the reshaper features or sketch the reshaper curve. Follow step 10 to select the reshaper features or step 11 to sketch the reshaper curve.
- If you want to use existing features as the reshaper curve, perform the following steps:
- Click the Select reshaper curve option.
The pointer changes to allow you to select the reshaper feature.
- Click the List By Selection button on the Table Of Contents window.
- Select the polyline or polygon features you want to reshape in the Table Of Contents window.
- Select a reshaper feature in the map—either a single polygon or contiguous polylines. 提示:
If you are selecting a polygon, it cannot be a multipart feature, and it can only have one ring. If you are selecting a polyline, it should be a single polyline or set of connected polylines, but it cannot be a multipart line feature. You can also refine your selection on the Update tab on the Manage Features window.
- Click the Select reshaper curve option.
- If you want to sketch the reshaper curve, perform the following steps:
- Click the Sketch reshaper curve button.
The pointer changes to allow you to sketch the reshaper curve.
- Click where you want to start sketching the reshaper curve and double-click to finish the sketch.注意:
An appropriate reshaper curve must cross the edge that is to be updated at least twice.
- Click the Sketch reshaper curve button.
- Click the List By Selection button in the Table Of Contents window.
- Select the polyline or polygon features you want to use as the representative features in the Table Of Contents window.
-
On the Reshape Shared Edges dialog box, choose the Select Representative features option.
The reshaper feature selection is saved. Upon choosing the option, the Select Features tool is automatically enabled.
- Select a representative feature in the map—either a single polygon or contiguous polylines.
- Select either a single polygon or contiguous polylines as the representative feature.
This represents the entire edge that you are reshaping.注意:
If you select a polygon, it cannot be a multipart feature, but it can have multiple interior rings as long as the reshaper does not pass through more than one ring. If you select a polyline, it should be a single polyline or set of connected polylines, but it cannot be a multipart line feature. The representative feature must pass through the edge being updated at least twice.
-
Click Find Coincident Features.
The geometry of the representative features you selected is analyzed to determine the reshaping region and the relevant set of shared edges, as limited by the reshaper geometry. These shared edges are used to identify the candidate features that share those edges.
The tree view refreshes with all the coincident features found. All the candidate features in the tree view are checked to be processed. Features from feature classes not loaded in the map session are included but are still in the database and will be edited unless you uncheck the check boxes for them.
- If necessary, uncheck the boxes next to the features, subtypes, or feature classes you do not want to reshape.
-
Click the Reshape button.
The tool reshapes or clips the features as you have specified. When finished, a message box appears asking if you want to view the logfile.
-
If you want to continue using the Reshape Shared Edges tool with the same configuration settings, repeat step 10 or 11.
提示:
If you need to alter the configuration settings, click Configuration Settings to display the Reshape Shared Edges Configuration dialog box.
