Splitting a linear event

Linear events, such as speed limits and pavement conditions, can be used to describe entire routes and can be split to indicate changes in elements or characteristics. The Split Linear Route Event tool allows you to split a linear event at a specified location. This creates a new event that can be customized to describe conditions or a new element on the route.

For instance, a section of pavement has been reevaluated on a route and requires resurfacing. With the Split Linear Route Event tool, you can split a linear route event to create a new fair or poor pavement event by splitting an existing one. The pointer changes to a circle that indicates where the event is going to be split.

Example of a route event that has been split

When the event is split, a new record is created in the event table and is visualized in the map. The existing event's value for the to-measure field or the from-measure field is also adjusted as necessary.

The new event initially inherits the same attributes as the one that was split to create it. However, the attributes of the new event can be changed through the Attributes window on Feature Manager so it can be properly visualized in the map. Using the previous example, the section of road that requires resurfacing could have its condition value changed to Poor.

手順:
  1. Start ArcMap.
    ヒントヒント:

If the ArcMap - Getting Started dialog box appears, you can open a new or existing map document. You can also check the Do not show this dialog box in the future check box and click Open.

  2. Load events or open an existing map document.
    メモメモ:

When working with joins and event layers, make sure you add the event layer before you perform the join to ensure that edits to the event layer are performed correctly. If you join the event table before adding it as an event layer, you cannot update the attributes of the event while editing, and some of the event editing may not work.

  3. On the main menu, click Customize Toolbars Production Editing.
  4. On the main menu, click Customize Toolbars Production Linear Referencing.
  5. Click the Production Start Editing button Production Start Editing on the Production Editing toolbar.
    メモメモ:

The Manage Features and Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes windows automatically appear when you start an edit session using the Production Start Editing tool.

    ヒントヒント:

If the Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes window does not appear when you start an edit session, click the Link Feature Manager To Attributes Window button Show/Hide Attributes on the Manage Features window.

  6. If necessary, enable classic snapping on the Production Editing toolbar by clicking Production Editing Use Classic Snapping.
  7. Click the Split Linear Route Event Tool button Split Linear Route Event Tool on the Production Linear Referencing toolbar.
  8. Select a line event in the map.

The pointer changes to a turquoise circle, and a MapTip displays its current measure value along the route.

  9. Drag the pointer to where you want to split the line event and click the line.

The event is split at the specified location.
