Modifying a single line event
Linear events on route features include guard rails and painted curb zones. These types of events can change due to improvements when guard rails are added or removed, or when the parking regulations change along a section of the road. With the Modify Line Event tool, you can move the starting or ending point of a linear feature to shorten or extend an event as needed.
For example, due to increased traffic along a section of a city street, the city has decided to extend the no parking zone to keep the parking lane open for traffic for a greater portion of the roadway. A line event for the existing no parking zone can be extended to cover a larger portion of the road. The Modify Line Event tool exposes the vertices on the no parking event so you can extend it to the part of the road that has been reassigned to prohibit parking. As the vertex is moved, a line appears in the map to show you the modified shape of the line.
Depending on the vertex that is moved, the corresponding to- or from-value is updated. The event is redrawn along the route to visualize the change to the event.
An event can only be shortened or extended on its corresponding route. That is, the event cannot extend beyond one route. For instance, if the event is on a route with a route identifier of 103, the route can only extend along route 103; an event cannot extend onto another route.
- Start ArcMap.Conseil :
If the ArcMap - Getting Started dialog box appears, you can open a new or existing map document. You can also check the Do not show this dialog box in the future check box and click Open.
-
Load the event layer and associated routes in the table of contents.
Remarque :
When working with joins and event layers, make sure you add the event layer before you perform the join to ensure that edits to the event layer are performed correctly. If you join the event table before adding it as an event layer, you cannot update the attributes of the event while editing, and some of the event editing may not work.
- On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Production Editing.
- On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Production Linear Referencing.
-
Click the Production Start Editing button on the Production Editing toolbar.
Remarque :
The Manage Features and Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes windows automatically appear when you start an edit session using the Production Start Editing tool.
Conseil :If the Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes window does not appear when you start an edit session, click the Show/Hide Attributes button on the Manage Features window.
- Click the Modify Line Event Tool button on the Production Linear Referencing toolbar.
- Click the Select Route Events Tool button on the Production Linear Referencing toolbar.
-
Select a line event in the map.
The vertices on the line are exposed.
Remarque :Only the start point or endpoint can be moved.
Remarque :If the event layer is displayed with an offset, the vertex will snap to the route while the event is being modified.
- Click and drag the start point or endpoint to where you want it moved on the route.
The value in the measure field for the to- or from-point is updated in the event table, and the event is redrawn on the map.
