Creating an event

Events are records in tables that can be represented as points along an associated route in the map. The difference between the point and line events is that points occur in a single location, while lines cover an extended section of a route. Examples of point events include signs and crashes, while linear events are pavement conditions and speed limits.

Using the Create Route Event construction tool, you can create new events on a route based on the template you choose on the Create tab on the Manage Features window. When the event is created, a new record is added to the event table, then it is symbolized in the map. The m-values for the features are calculated based on the event's position on the route.

Pasos:
  1. Start ArcMap.
    SugerenciaSugerencia:

If the ArcMap - Getting Started dialog box appears, you can open a new or existing map document. You can also check the Do not show this dialog box in the future check box and click Open.

  2. Load the event layer and associated routes in the table of contents.
  3. On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Production Editing.
  4. Click the Production Start Editing button Production Start Editing on the Production Editing toolbar.
    NotaNota:

The Manage Features and Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes windows automatically appear when you start an edit session using the Production Start Editing tool.

    SugerenciaSugerencia:

If the Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes window does not appear when you start an edit session, click the Link Feature Manager To Attributes Window button Show/Hide Attributes on the Manage Features window.

  5. Choose an event layer on the Create tab on the Manage Features window.

The layer you choose determines the type of event that is going to be created.

  6. Select the route on which you want to create the new event.
  7. Click the Create Route Event button Create Point Event at the bottom of the Create tab.

The mouse pointer changes to a turquoise circle when it is paused over the selected route. A MapTip displays the current measure value of the route under the pointer.

  8. NotaNota:

If snapping is enabled, MapTips also appear for snapping.

  9. Do one of the following to create a new event:
    • To create a point event, click the route where you want the event to be created.
    • To create a line event, click the route once to define a from-point, drag the pointer, then click where you want the to-point.

A new record is created in the appropriate event table, and the new event is drawn in the map. The event can be attributed using the Update Attributes window.
