Introduction

To install the ArcGIS Workflow Manager Server extension, you must have ArcGIS Server standard or advanced installed. You must also be an administrator or have elevated privileges.

This installation guide will provide steps required to set up your Workflow Manager system. The Server media kit contains the Server Edition and Desktop. The installation wizard will verify that ArcGIS Workflow Manager is properly installed.

Overview

ArcGIS Workflow Manager Server consists of a custom server object and ArcGIS Workflow Manager Web service. The custom server object requires extra components for your Server Object Manager (SOM) and Server Object Container (SOC).

The SOM and SOC components and SDK can be installed using the ArcGIS Workflow Manager Server setup program for either the Java or .NET edition of ArcGIS Server.

ArcGIS Workflow Manager is made up of

The GIS server components

The ArcGIS Workflow Manager Server media installs components to extend your Server Object Manager and Server Object Container.

The SOM is a Windows server running on a single machine. The SOM manages a set of server objects that are distributed across one or more SOC machines. ArcGIS Workflow Manager extends the core framework to allow managing the custom ArcGIS Workflow Manager Server Object and Web services.

The SOC can be installed on one or more Windows machines. These SOC machines host the server object processes that are managed by the SOM. Each SOC machine is capable of hosting multiple container processes. A container process is a process in which one or more server objects is running. Container processes are administered by the SOM. ArcGIS Workflow Manager extends the core framework to allow the custom ArcGIS Workflow Manager server object to run on your already configured SOC machines.
