Searching for places
With the search functionality provided by the ArcGIS Map Web Part, you can search for and locate addresses, monuments, geographic entities (for example, cities or states), intersections, landmarks, or other points of interest.
There are two ways to open the Search panel:
- Expand the Map Web Part side panel and click the Search button located on the upper right of the panel:
- Click Add Content on the Application tab of the web part's ribbon. From the menu that appears, click Search:
To perform your search for places, follow these steps:
- Click Places (if necessary) on the Search panel:
- Type your search criteria and click the magnifying glass icon or press Enter to execute the search. The search results are shown in the Search panel below the search text box.
In general, the more specific you are in your search, the greater the likelihood that you will find what you're searching for, so provide as much detail as you can. For example, compare the results of a search for "Paris" versus a search for "Paris, Texas":
Once the search results are returned, the Map Web Part automatically navigates to the first result. - To navigate to a different result, click it. To add a place, click the link next to the place.
