Glossary Item Box

With the search functionality provided by the ArcGIS Map Web Part, you can search for and locate addresses, monuments, geographic entities (e.g. cities or states), intersections, landmarks, or other points of interest.

There are two ways to open the Search panel:

To perform your search for places, follow these steps.

  1. If Places is not already highlighted in the Search panel, click it:

  2. Type your search criteria and click the magnifying glass or hit enter to execute the search.  The search results will be shown in the search panel below the search textbox.  In general, the more specific you are in your search, the greater the likelihood that you will find what you're searching for - so provide as much detail as you can.  For example, compare the results of a search for "Paris" versus a search for "Paris, TX":

  3. Once the search results are returned, the Map Web Part will automatically navigate to the first result.  To navigate to a different result, simply click it.  To add a place, click the link next to the place.
