Database Requirements/Limitations

NoteNote:

For DB2 Databases that were created at DB2 V7, and migrated to V8, please note that the following APAR Fixes or IBM Fix Packs are required before migration to DB2 V9.5 or V9.7.

IBM PMR 56352,756,000

V9.5 FP6 or obtain fix for APAR JR34916, APAR JR35843 V9.7 FP2

For migration from V7 to V9.7, a spatial migration issue has been addressed in - V9.7 FP3 or obtain fix for APAR IC67485

For DB2 databases that were created at DB2 V8 and then migrated to DB2 V9.x and have issues with Spatial Migration (Refer to IBM PMR 15006, 004,000); this will require -

V9.5 FP6 or obtain APAR JR35843

V9.7 FP2

Please contact IBM for required fixes and regarding the availability of these Fix Packs.

IBM DB2 V9.5 (32-bit and 64-bit)

  • Recommended Service Pack(s)/Patch(es): Fix Pack 6
  • Required Add-On(s): IBM Spatial Extender Version 9.5 Fix Pack 5
  • IBM DB2 9.5 Enterprise Server Edition is not supported on 32-bit Linux platform.

IBM DB2 V9.7 (32-bit and 64-bit)

  • Minimum Required Service Pack(s)/Patch(es): Fix Pack 2
  • Recommended Service Pack(s)/Patch(es): Fix Pack 3
  • Required Add-On(s): IBM Spatial Extender Version 9.7 Fix Pack 2

IBM DB2 V9 for z/OS

  • Required Service Pack(s)/Patch(es): APAR Pk51020, PK60624, PK60137
  • Required Add-On(s): IBM Spatial Support for DB2 for z/OS - DB2 Accessories Suite
  • ArcSDE component installation: The ArcSDE component must be installed on a Windows 32-bit client machine. ArcSDE then makes a direct connection to the DB2 database subsystem on the z/OS. To make this direct connection, DB2 Connect Version 9.5, Fix Pack 5 or above, which includes the DB2 Control Center application, must be installed on the Windows client.

ArcSDE is tested and certified on DB2 Enterprise Server Edition except for ArcSDE for Linux (32-Bit). Other versions of DB2 such as DB2 Workgroup Server Edition and DB2 Personal Edition share a common code base and are supported as long as they meet the ArcSDE requirements listed above. For more information on the distributed editions of DB2, refer to the articles listed below.

Notes:

*Enterprise ArcSDE for DB2 technology is now available as a 64-bit runtime environment. This operating system is supported beginning at ArcGIS 10.0 ArcSDE XML column support is enabled by the Text Search Extender Product. Refer to IBM documentation to properly configure Text Search.
