Database Requirements
The Oracle Text component must be installed. The Text component is installed by default in Oracle 10g and 11g; however, if you did not perform a default installation, the Text component may not have been installed.
Also note that if there is no native ArcSDE build for the operating system of the server hosting the Oracle database, there is no support for SQL access to ST_Geometry or ST_Raster. ST_Geometry and ST_Raster storage can be used from ArcSDE clients, but SQL access to this data is not supported.
Oracle 10g R2 (10.2.0.x) Requirements
Oracle 10.2.0.3 ST_GEOMETRY users - need to apply the Oracle patch that fixes Oracle bug 6756089.
Oracle 11g R1 (11.1.0.x) Requirements
To use Oracle's native XML type, you must use Oracle 11.1.0.7 with one of the following patches applied:
- 8593954 - For Linux 32-bit and 64-bit, Sun Solaris, HP-UX Itanium, and IBM AIX
- 8655458 (patch 15) - For Windows 32-bit
- 8655460 - For Windows 64-bit
Windows Server 2008 SP1 64-bit is supported on Oracle 11.1.0.7 64-bit as the base version.
Oracle 11g R2 (11.2.0.x) Requirements
- Oracle 11.2.0.1 users - may need to apply Oracle Patch 8795792. See KB Article 38470 for more information.
- Oracle 11.2.0.2 users - see KB Article 38713 if using versioned Oracle Spatial feature classes.
Required Configuration: When ArcSDE 10 (32-bit) is installed on a Windows or Linux 32-bit operating system (OS), you must use an Oracle 32-bit client to access an Oracle 64-bit database. This must be done for both application server and direct connections. Instructions for setting up ArcSDE 10 (32-bit) using the Oracle 32-bit client to connect correctly to the Oracle 64-bit database are as follows:
- Install the Oracle 32-bit client software (see Oracle Support for download, installation, and setup instructions).
- Create a service name using the Oracle 32-bit Net Manager you just installed to connect to your Oracle 64-bit database.
- Install and set up ArcSDE 10, making sure you are using the correct version of the Oracle 32-bit installation. Use the Oracle 32-bit service name you defined above for the connection to the Oracle 64-bit database.
Oracle Database Patch Support
Oracle 10.2.0.3, 11.1.0.7, and 11.2.0.1 or higher Oracle patch. This includes Oracle patch set levels and Oracle interim (one-off) patch as per Oracle Corporation's Patch Set Overview and Interim Patch documentation.
See Oracle Support for all Oracle patch set (and interim patch) documentation and installation instructions. Esri recommends that you make a full backup of your Oracle database prior to applying any Oracle patch sets or an interim patch. If functionality that was working prior to applying the Oracle patch set or interim patch stops working, return to the previous version of Oracle. Contact Oracle Support as needed.
Operating System Limitations
HP HP-UX 11i v3 (B.11.31) Itanium
Mandatory Open Network Computing (ONC) plus version ONCplus B.11.31.08.. For more information, please visit HP.
Linux
ArcSDE is only supported on:
- Linux x86, on CPUs that adhere to the x86 architecture (32-bit), with supported Linux releases
- Linux x86_64, on CPUs that adhere to the x86_64 architecture (64-bit), with supported Linux releases
Windows 7 64-bit is supported with Oracle11g R2 64-bit at ArcSDE 10 SP1 for basic testing and application development use only. It is not recommended for deployment in a production environment.
