How to install NetBeans ArcGIS plug-ins


Summary The ESRI ArcGIS Server Java Web ADF Plug-in for NetBeans IDE 6.x can be downloaded and installed via the ESRI NetBeans Update Center. You can access the update center by clicking 'Tools > Plugins' in the main menu of your NetBeans IDE. The plug-ins allow you to develop ESRI GIS central web applications.

Before you begin
 
The following software must be installed before you attempt to install and use the ArcGIS plug-in for NetBeans. 
Downloading and installing the plug-in
This section contains instructions for setting up the NetBeans ESRI update center and installing the plug-in on a supported platform for the first time:
  1. Click 'Tools->Plugins' from the main menu of the IDE.
  1. In the Plugins window, select the 'Settings' tab.
  2. In the Settings tab, click the 'Add' button and add the update center.  The URL for the update center is 'http://downloads.esri.com/edn/java/plugins/netbeans/v93/updates.xml'. 
  1. Click 'OK' and select the 'Available Plugins' tab from the Plugins window. 
  1. In the list of available plug-ins, check the 'Install' check box associated with your ArcGIS Java ADF plug-in.  This will enable the 'Install' button. 
  1. Click 'Install' and the NetBeans IDE installer window appears.
  1. Click 'Next' to confirm the ESRI ArcGIS Java ADF for NetBeans plug-in will be installed.
  2. Read and accept the terms of the license agreement displayed and click 'Install'.
  3. After the installation completes successfully, select 'Restart the IDE Now' and click 'Finish'.
NetBeans should exit and restart with the ArcGIS plug-ins installed.
Update  a previous install
This section contains instructions on how to update the version of a plug-in you already have installed in your NetBeans IDE v6.x:
  1. Click on 'Tools->Plugins' from the main menu of the IDE.
  2. In the Plugins window, select the Updates tab, if it is not already selected.
  3. Click the 'Reload Catalog' in the Updates tab.
  4. Locate the plug-ins under the ESRI category.
  5. Check the 'Update' checkbox(es) for the ESRI plug-in. 
  6. Click 'Update', and the NetBeans IDE Installer window appears listing the plug-ins that will be updated.
  7. Click 'Next'.
  8. Read and accept the terms of the license agreement displayed.
  9. Click 'Install' and the installation progress is displayed.
  10. After the installation is complete, select 'Restart IDE Now' and click 'Finish'.
NetBeans should exit and restart with the ArcGIS plug-ins updated to the latest version.
