Viewing the plan histrogram

The plan histogram lets you view a histogram chart that contains the total population per district and per demographic. The histogram chart lets you view a comparison of the total population in each district and lets you modify district plans to produce a balanced representation of demographics.

Steps:
  1. On the Review ribbon, click Plan Histogram.
Plan Histogram on the Review ribbon

The Plan Histogram dialog box opens.

Plan Histogram shows a histogram of demographics per district

The plan histogram is divided into selected district captions (for example, districts, precincts, or territories) and displays only the demographics that are turned on in the Demographics dialog box.

    NoteNote:

You can click the slider dial to change the visible districts on the histogram as shown in the image above.

  2. Navigate the Plan Histogram dialog box at the demographic level:
    • Hover the pointer over a bar on the histogram to view a ToolTip. The ToolTip shows the district for the bar and the total count of that district.
    • Slide the scale slider to change the number of demographics that can be viewed at one time. The maximum demographics that can be viewed at one time depends on the number of demographics turned on in the Demographics dialog box. The minumum demographic viewed at one time is one. When you click on the scale slider, a number indicates how many demographics will be viewed.
    • Use the slider bars to pan through the histogram for each demographic.
  3. Slide the Base Value slider to the desired population value for the histogram.

The Base Value slider lets you adjust the starting value for the histogram. The minimum base value is 0; the maximum is equal to or less than the population in the smallest district.

    NoteNote:

If Unassigned or any district has a population of 0, the base value cannot be changed from zero. You can alternately hide the Unassigned or district that contains the 0 population to adjust the base value.

Adjusting the base value lets you granularly view the population discrepancies by adjusting the starting value of the histogram. You will also see a target population line to let you know whether districts are over or under the target population.
