Managing study areas

In the Data Manager library you can manage study areas. The Data Manager lets you organize saved study areas. You can organize study areas into custom folders. The Data Manager also provides an overview of study areas such as the name, description, type, and last modified. Using the Data Manager, you can make a study area active. You can also delete, move, edit, and copy study areas.

If a study area was created during your current OnSite session, the study area is automatically categorized under Active Study Areas. You can also make previous study area active using the drag and drop feature.

NoteNote:

The Data Manager allows you to access only the study areas that you have created. You cannot view or manage study areas created by another OnSite user.

The Data Manager depicts study area type using icons. The following table outlines the study areas you will see.

In this topic, you will learn how to perform the following:

Activate study areas

Study areas can be activated within the Data Manager. This allows you to display more than one active study area at one time.

If more than one study area is displayed, you can opt to toggle on/off study areas to improve your analysis. You can manage the visibility of study areas under the Studies tab in Map Layers. See Working with map layers.

Steps:
  1. On the Task Menu, click Open Data Manager.

    The Data Manager dialog box opens. On the left panel is a library that contains all study areas, user points, reports, and annotations. By default the Study Areas folder is selected. All study areas for your account are displayed in tabular form.

  2. In the Library tree view, click to highlight the Study Areas folder.

    The data manager library displays all study areas in your user account.

  3. Click to highlight the desired study area(s).

  4. Drag the study area to the Active Study Areas table.

    The selected study area is now an active study area.

At any time you can click Exit Manager Exit Manager button to close the data manager library.

Delete study areas

Using the data manager library, you can remove study areas from your account that are no longer relevant to your tasks.

Steps:
  1. On the Task Menu, click Open Data Manager.

    The Data Manager dialog box opens. On the left panel is a library that contains all study areas, user points, reports, and annotations. By default the Study Areas folder is selected. All study areas for your account are displayed in tabular form.

  2. In the Library tree view, click to highlight the Study Areas folder.

    The data manager library displays all study areas in your user account.

  3. Click to highlight the desired study area(s).

  4. Click Recycle Bin Recycle Bin button.

    A confirmation message appears to confirm the delete.

  5. Click Yes.

    The selected study area is deleted.

At any time you can click Exit Manager Exit Manager button to close the data manager library.

Move study areas to user defined folders

You can use the data manager library to organize and move study areas into custom folders.

Steps:
  1. On the Task Menu, click Open Data Manager.

    The Data Manager dialog box opens. On the left panel is a library that contains all study areas, user points, reports, and annotations. By default the Study Areas folder is selected. All study areas for your account are displayed in tabular form.

  2. In the Library tree view, click to highlight the Study Areas folder.

    The data manager library displays all study areas in your user account.

  3. Click to highlight the desired study area(s).
  4. Drag and drop the study area into the user defined folder tree.

    The study area is moved to a user defined folder. Study areas are automatically dropped into the Study Area folder. User point groups are automatically dropped into the User Points folder.

At any time you can click Exit Manager Exit Manager button to close the data manager library.

Edit study area name, description, or category

Use the data manager library to edit information about a study area. You can edit information such as the study area name, description, or category.

Steps:
  1. On the Task Menu, click Open Data Manager.

    The Data Manager dialog box opens. On the left panel is a library that contains all study areas, user points, reports, and annotations. By default the Study Areas folder is selected. All study areas for your account are displayed in tabular form.

  2. In the Library tree view, click to highlight the Study Areas folder.

    The data manager library displays all study areas in your user account.

  3. Click the study area field to edit. You can edit any of the following study area fields:
    • Name
    • Description
    • Category
