Working with measure tools

OnSite Solution has measure tools that let you measure distance and area.

The distance measurements (e.g., kilometers or miles) are pulled from your preference settings. See Setting the default country settings.

In this topic, you will learn how to do the following tools:

• Measure using a freehand polyline
• Measure using a polyline
• Measure using a polygon
• Clear all measurements

Measure using a freehand polyline

The Measure Freehand Polyline tools lets you measure the distance of a freehand polyline. A freehand polyline lets you draw on the map according to the location of the mouse. This tool may be helpful to accommodate natural barriers or true distances, where there is not a straight line from the starting location and the end point.

Steps:

1. Click the Measure Freehand Polyline tool.
2. Hold the mouse and draw a freehand line on the map.

   The polyline is drawn on the map at the location of the mouse.

3. Let go to finish.

   The distance displays above the freehand polyline according to the metric unit defined in your preference settings. See Setting the default country settings.

Measure using a polyline

The Measure Polyline tool lets you measure distance of polylines. A polyline lets you draw a line on the map, where each vertext of the polyline is connected by a straight line.

Steps:

1. Click the Measure Polyline tool.
2. Click the map at the start location.

   Each click of the mouse places a vertext to your polyline.

3. Double-click to end the measurement.

   The distance displays above the polyline according to the metric unit defined in your preference settings. See Setting the default country settings.

Measure using a polygon

The Measure Polygon tools calculates the area of a polygon. The area is calculated in square miles.

Steps:

1. Click the Measure Polygon tool.
2. Click the map at the start location.

   Each click of the mouse places a vertext to your polygon.

3. Double-click to end the measurement.

   The area displays on the polygon according to the metric unit defined in your preference settings. See Setting the default country settings.

Clear all measurements

The Clear All Measurements tool lets you delete all measurements from the map.

Note:

This step assumes you have measurements on the map, such as freehand polyline, polyline, or polygon measurements.

Steps:

1. Click Clear All Measurements .

   All measurements are removed from the map.
