Current metadata support

In the image service definition (.ISDef) file the following metadata tags are defined and used by default.

Node

Type

Description

Title

String

Title given to the image service. This is generally different but related to the name. It is similar to the FGDC: metadata/idinfo/citation/citeinfo/title.

Edition

String

Edition of the image servicesimilar to a version number. It is similar to the FGDC: metadata/idinfo/citation/citeinfo/edition.

Identifier

String

Unique ID for the image service and version number. If the image service is changed, this value should also be changed. May be used by applications to track the lineage of an image service.

GeoRegion

String

Geographic region, such as town, state, or country. Assists clients in selecting an image service.

PixelUnit

String

Description of the pixel values. The default list provides some examples, including True Color; False Color; NDVI Legend; Radiance; Elevation m; and Elevation ft. Other values can be entered.

PixelSource

String

Source from which the pixel values are obtained. This is generally the sensor type or original source. The default list provides some examples, including Aerial Photography; Landsat; QuickBird; Scanned Maps; SRTM; and Mixed. Other values can be entered.

ProcessSum

Memo

Summary of the processing applied by the image service to the raw imagery.

Abstract

Memo

Abstract about this image service.

Purpose

Memo

Purpose of the image service.

Originator

String

Originator of the image service.

Publisher

String

Publisher of the image service.

Rights

String

Owner or owners of the rights to the data and image service.

ContactOrg

String

Contact organization for the image service.

ContactPer

String

Contact person for the image service.

TimePeriodBegin

Date

Date of the first image added in the image service.

TimePeriodEnd

Date

Date of the last image added in the image service.

ServiceCreationDate

Date

Date the image service was created.

ServiceCreationTime

Time

Time the image service was created.

Additional nodes can be added by modifying the .ISDef file.

There are no defined standards for the raster metadatawhich depends only on the raster type generator. However for ArcGIS Image Server clients to view consistent metadata, the table below lists the suggested standards. Using standards can be advantageous when defining tags used as raster attributes, because it simplifies the process of having the tags added to the source tables if they have the same names.

Node

Type

Description

GenTime

String

Generation time.

SatId

String

Satellite ID information.

CatalogId

String

Vendors catalog ID for the raw data used in this product.

SceneId

String

Identifier for the scene within the strip referenced by this product.

SunAzimuth

Float

Azimuth angle of the sun measured from north, clockwise, in degrees. This is measured from the scene center, corresponding to the center pixel of the image.

SunElev

Float

Elevation angle of the sun from horizontal, in degrees. This is measured from the scene center, corresponding to the center pixel of the image.

SatAzimuth

Float

Azimuth angle of the satellite with respect to the center of the image, in degrees.

SatElev

Float

Elevation angle of the satellite with respect to the center of the image, in degrees.

IVAngle

Float

The dihedral angle measured at the spacecraft from the nominal spacecraft YZ plane to the plane that contains the ground projection of image center and the spacecraft y-axis, in degrees. A positive angle indicates the sensor is looking forward.

CVAngle

Float

The dihedral angle measured at the spacecraft from the nominal spacecraft XZ plane to the plane that contains the ground projection of the image center and the spacecraft x-axis, in degrees. A positive angle indicates the sensor is looking to the right.

OVAngle

Float

The spacecraft's elevation angle, measured from nadir to the image center, as seen from the spacecraft.

CloudCover

Float

Estimate of the maximum cloud-covered fraction of the image. 1.0 corresponds to 100% cloud cover. This cloud cover percentage refers to the entire scene and not necessarily the cloud cover percentage within the customers order polygon.

Quality

String

Textual description of environmental quality.
