Using the Viewpoint functionality in MicroStation

The Viewpoint functionality of ArcGIS Image Server enables you to change the order of multiple overlapping images in an image service to view the same location from different angles or viewpoints. This is a useful feature when you are working with large-scale imagery in urban built-up areas where large buildings can cause blind spots on the ground, since this functionality can enable you to see buildings from various angles. By using the Viewpoint functionality, you can shift the obstructing entity in the image and see the terrain entities. You can also see all sides of buildings that can be used for a range of applications, such as civil defense.

The Viewpoint functionality can be used in image services with overlapping images where the viewpoint mosaic method has been enabled by the administrator of the image service.

Steps:
  1. Add an image service in MicroStation.
  2. Click the Properties button Properties on the MicroStation Image Server Client dialog box.
  3. Set Mosaic Method to Viewpoint.
  4. Click OK to close the Service Properties dialog box.
  5. On the MicroStation Image Server Client dialog box, click the Viewpoint button Viewpoint.

The Viewpoint dialog box is displayed.

  6. Click the Center Point button Viewpoint center button on the Viewpoint dialog box.

The autocalculated center point x- and y-coordinates of the area of interest are displayed on the dialog box. You can type your own values to replace the autocalculated values to change the center point.

  7. Click any of the viewpoint arrow buttons to view the portion of the image service from that direction.
  8. Click OK.

Notice the change in the viewpoint of the image service from the selected direction. If you do not notice a change in the viewpoint, the image for the particular viewpoint is not available.
