ArcGIS Image Server MapInfo client limitations
- The Service Manager layer priority settings take precedence over the MapInfo layer dialog box settings and will be overwritten each time you click the Refresh button on the ArcGIS Image Server toolbar. Therefore, if you change the layer priority on the MapInfo layer dialog box, it will not be reflected on the Service Manager dialog box.
- In MapInfo, layer names are limited to 32 characters. The MapInfo client program uses the prefix "ESRI_MI_" for layer names, tables, and image names to prevent conflicts with other ArcGIS Image Server client applications. This leaves 24 characters for the actual service name and instance name. Therefore, you need to ensure that your service/instance names do not exceed 24 characters. If the client program does encounter a situation where the layer name exceeds 32 characters, it displays an error and terminates the current operation of loading a service.
- MapInfo workspaces store references to ArcGIS Image Server services. The connection to these services can be restored automatically once the workspace is opened; however, the client application has to be run after the workspace is opened. Therefore, if the user has created a startup.wor file that runs the client application on MapInfo startup, loading any saved workspaces will not restore the connection to ArcGIS Image Server. To work around this, follow the steps below:
- Open a saved workspace.
- Click Tools and click Run MapBasic Program, or press CTRL+U.
- Select the ImageServer.mbx file (usually this file is stored at "C:\Program Files\ESRI\Image Server MapInfo\ImageServer.mbx").
This will reinitialize the client and restore connections to all image services.
