Image service metadata
Metadata and image properties are provided to every client application with an image service. Some default metadata information is dependent on the particular client application, and some metadata is transmitted at the discretion of the image service administrator.
Service Info node
On the Service Properties dialog box, the Service Info node on the Metadata tab provides the metadata information for the image service.
Information tab—The following fields are available under the Information tab when the Service Info node is selected:

Properties tab—The following fields are available on the Properties tab when the Service Info node is selected. These provide the service properties of the image service.
Field |
Description |
---|---|
Name |
Name of the image service. |
Max. Pixel Size |
Maximum pixel size of the data in the image service in meters. |
Min. Pixel Size |
Minimum pixel size of the data in the image service in meters. |
Spatial Reference System |
Spatial reference used within the image service. |
Number of Bands |
Number of bands that were mosaicked together to form the data in the image service. |
Pixel Type |
Type of pixels that were mosaicked to form the data in the image service. |
Pixel Size |
Pixel size of the data in the image service. |
Bit Depth |
Number of bits of the data in the image service. |
Color Space |
Defines the relationship between the bands of the pixel. |
Process Weight |
Weight given to the image service that defines the relative amount of processing required for each request. |
Max. Number of Columns |
Maximum number of columns of pixels allowed in a single data request to ArcGIS Image Server. The default is 15000. |
Max. Number of Rows |
Maximum number of rows of pixels allowed in a single data request to ArcGIS Image Server. The default is 4100. |
Allowed Mosaic Methods |
An image returned to the client can be created from a number of input rasters. The mosaic method defines how the mosaic is created from different rasters.
|
Metadata tab—The following fields are available on the Metadata tab when the Service Info node is selected. These are typical metadata fields for an image service but can be redefined by the administrator.

Description of the geographic region, for example, town, state, and country. This is used to assist clients in selecting an image service. |
Pixel Unit |
Descriptor of the value represented by the pixel, such as True Color, False Color, NDVI Legend, Radiance, Elevation in meters, and Elevation in feet. |
Pixel Source |
Descriptor of the source data from which the pixel values are obtained. This is generally the sensor type or the original source, such as aerial photography, scanned map, or Landsat. |

Image Returned node
The following fields are available when you click the Image Returned node on the Metadata tab:
Field |
Description |
---|---|
X Minimum |
Minimum x-coordinate |
Y Minimum |
Minimum y-coordinate |
X Maximum |
Maximum x-coordinate |
Y Maximum |

Columns |
Number of columns of pixels |
Rows |
Number of rows of pixels |
Bands |
Number of bands of the data |
Bit Depth |
Number of bits of the data |
Color Space |

Server Process node
If you have processes applied to the image service, the Server Process node on the Metadata tab shows process metadata transmitted by ArcGIS Image Server. If there are no processes applied to the image service, no process metadata is transmitted and the nodes are blank. Also, if the administrator has chosen not to transmit the service process metadata, this display window is blank.
Source node
The Source node displays the information for each specific raster dataset, which is used to create the current image service display. The Source node does not appear if there are no rasters to display in the image service.
The following fields are available on the Information tab:
