Image service metadata

Metadata and image properties are provided to every client application with an image service. Some default metadata information is dependent on the particular client application, and some metadata is transmitted at the discretion of the image service administrator.

Service Info node

On the Service Properties dialog box, the Service Info node on the Metadata tab provides the metadata information for the image service.

Layer Properties Information tab

Properties tab—The following fields are available on the Properties tab when the Service Info node is selected. These provide the service properties of the image service.

Field

Description

Name

Name of the image service.

Max. Pixel Size

Maximum pixel size of the data in the image service in meters.

Min. Pixel Size

Minimum pixel size of the data in the image service in meters.

Spatial Reference System

Spatial reference used within the image service.

Number of Bands

Number of bands that were mosaicked together to form the data in the image service.

Pixel Type

Type of pixels that were mosaicked to form the data in the image service.

Pixel Size

Pixel size of the data in the image service.

Bit Depth

Number of bits of the data in the image service.

Color Space

Defines the relationship between the bands of the pixel.

Process Weight

Weight given to the image service that defines the relative amount of processing required for each request.

Max. Number of Columns

Maximum number of columns of pixels allowed in a single data request to ArcGIS Image Server. The default is 15000.

Max. Number of Rows

Maximum number of rows of pixels allowed in a single data request to ArcGIS Image Server. The default is 4100.

Allowed Mosaic Methods

An image returned to the client can be created from a number of input rasters. The mosaic method defines how the mosaic is created from different rasters.

  • Closest to Center—Enables rasters to be sorted based on a default order where rasters that have their centers closest to the view center are placed on top.
  • Closest to Nadir—Enables rasters to be sorted by the distance between the nadir position and view center. This is similar to the Closest to Center method but uses the nadir point to a raster, which may be different from the center, especially for oblique imagery.
  • Closest to Viewpoint—Orders rasters based on a user-defined location and nadir location for the rasters.
  • By Attribute—Enables raster ordering based on a defined metadata attribute and its difference from a base value.
  • Most Northwest—Enables raster ordering in a view-independent way, where rasters with their centers most northwest are displayed on top.
  • Seamline—Cuts the raster using the predefined seamline shape for each raster using optional feathering along the seams.
  • Lock Raster—Enables a user to lock the display of single or multiple rasters based on an ID or name.

Properties tab

Metadata tab—The following fields are available on the Metadata tab when the Service Info node is selected. These are typical metadata fields for an image service but can be redefined by the administrator.

Field

Description

Title

Title given to the image service.

Edition

Edition of the image service.

Identifier

Unique ID and version number of the image service.

Geographic Region

Description of the geographic region, for example, town, state, and country. This is used to assist clients in selecting an image service.

Pixel Unit

Descriptor of the value represented by the pixel, such as True Color, False Color, NDVI Legend, Radiance, Elevation in meters, and Elevation in feet.

Pixel Source

Descriptor of the source data from which the pixel values are obtained. This is generally the sensor type or the original source, such as aerial photography, scanned map, or Landsat.

Processing Summary

Summary of the processing applied by ArcGIS Image Server on raw data.

Image Returned properties

Server Process node

If you have processes applied to the image service, the Server Process node on the Metadata tab shows process metadata transmitted by ArcGIS Image Server. If there are no processes applied to the image service, no process metadata is transmitted and the nodes are blank. Also, if the administrator has chosen not to transmit the service process metadata, this display window is blank.

Server Process node

Source node

The Source node displays the information for each specific raster dataset, which is used to create the current image service display. The Source node does not appear if there are no rasters to display in the image service.

The following fields are available on the Information tab:

Field

Description

Raster Name

Name of the selected raster

Raster ID

Identification number given to the selected raster

Source

Source of the raster

Format Name

Format of the raster

Number of Bands

Number of bands in the raster

Bit Depth

Number of bits of the raster

Pixel Size

Pixel size of the raster

High Pixel Size
