Opening a new map on a desktop PC

Steps:

1. Click Start on the Windows taskbar.
2. Click All Programs.
3. Click ArcGIS.
4. Click ArcPad for Windows.

   You will see the ArcPad splash screen briefly and ArcPad will open with the Welcome to ArcPad dialog.

5. If you do not wish to see the Welcome to ArcPad dialog again when ArcPad starts, check the box 'set as default and do not ask again', then choose an option.

   To re-enable the Welcome to ArcPad dialog, tap the options button on the main toolbar, and go to General tab and uncheck the box 'Show open map dialog box on startup'. On tapping OK, a dialog will appear confirming that some preferences have changed. Click OK and next time you start ArcPad, it will start with the saved settings.
