Paths

The Paths tab is used to specify default folders or directories that ArcPad searches for startup files and when adding layers.

NO ALT TEXT

Default Maps & Data Path

Tap NO ALT TEXT to specify the default folder to display when using the Open Map or Add Layer tool. This is also the path that ArcPad will search for the map ArcPad.apm on startup. If ArcPad.apm is present, it will be automatically loaded when ArcPad starts.

By default, two folders are chosen for default maps & data path: your personal My Documents folder, and the public files folder (see below). When you install ArcPad, the sample data is installed to the public files folder.

NoteNote:

On Windows XP the public files folder location is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\ArcPad.

On Windows Vista and Windows 7 the public files folder location is C:\Users\Public\Documents\ArcPad.

Public Files Path

Tap NO ALT TEXT to specify the default folder to search for user edited files that are read by ArcPad. Change this setting only if your files have been moved to a different folder after installing ArcPad. You can only specify one public files path.

Inside the public files path you will see the subfolders: Applets, Extensions, Samples, Styles, System, Templates. Place your custom files in these folders.

NoteNote:

ArcPad will automatically also read from similar folders in the Program Files\ArcGIS\ArcPad10.0 location. Files in these folders are installed with ArcPad, and users are not encouraged to edit these.

Other Additional Paths

Choose the type of path that needs to be set: Applets, Styles, Extensions or Templates paths. Enter the path, or tap NO ALT TEXT to browse for the path.

By default, ArcPad will already look in two additional places for Applets, Styles or Extensions: Program Files\ArcGIS\ArcPad10.0, and Public Documents\ArcPad.

By default, ArcPad will already look for Templates in Public Documents\ArcPad.

You can nominate additional (multiple) paths for Applets, Styles, Extensions or Templates.

Choose Applets to specify additional directory name(s) for applets folder(s). ArcPad will search the default Applets paths as well as the specified folder(s) for applet files to automatically load when ArcPad starts.

Choose Styles to specify additional directory name(s) for the styles folder(s). ArcPad will search the default Styles path as well as the specified folder(s) for style files to automatically load when ArcPad starts.

Choose Extensions to specify additional directory name(s) for the extensions folder(s). ArcPad will search the default Extensions path as well as the specified folder(s) for extension files to automatically load when ArcPad starts.

Choose Templates to specify additional directory name(s) for the templates folder(s). ArcPad will search the default Templates path as well as the specified folder(s) for extension files to automatically load when ArcPad starts.

You can specify multiple folders for Applets, Styles, and Extensions and Templates paths by separating the folders with a semicolon. For example, you can specify the Applets path as the following:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\ArcPad;D:\MyApplets
