Related tables

The tab for related tables is similar to the Attributes tab, with the following differences:

AXF's created by the ArcPad Data Manager for ArcGIS 10, will contain related table forms by default, for related tables that are present in the mxd at the time of check out. AXF's created by previous versions of the ArcPad Data Manager will display a single-row view by default.

NoteNote:

If you are using the ArcPad Data Manager for ArcGIS 9.3 (or earlier), you can still create custom forms for your related tables with ease, in ArcPad Studio 10. A form for related table is created in the same way as a form for a feature class. Refer to the ArcPad Studio help for more information on creating custom forms, whose default installation path is C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\ArcPad10.0\Developer\Help\ArcPadStudio.chm

Related table list view

NO ALT TEXT

The related table tab consists of a list of records and columns in the table, with one row per record. Rows or records can be added or deleted in the list view, but the record contents cannot be edited.

The list view has the following buttons at the bottom of the tab:

NO ALT TEXT Accepts the edits for the feature attributes, including and related table record edits made.

NO ALT TEXT Cancels the edits for the feature attributes, including and related table record edits made.

NO ALT TEXT Switches to the custom edit form or single-row view for the selected related record.

NO ALT TEXT Adds a new related record and opens the custom edit form or single-row view for the new related record.

NO ALT TEXT Deletes the selected related record.

Attribute page for related records

NO ALT TEXT

The Attributes page for a related record has two columns: Property and Value. The data can be edited in the Attributes page. This view also includes rows for any secondary related tables. The Down NO ALT TEXT button can be used to easily navigate to any secondary related tables. Alternatively the tab for the secondary related table can be selected.

Property

Tap any property name to edit its associated value (if the values are read/write).

Value

Tap any value and tap it again to edit the value (if the values are read/write).

Validation of the data takes place at two levels:

  1. Data is validated according to the definition of the field or property. For example, ArcPad does not allow text characters to be entered into a field that has been defined as numeric.
  2. Data is validated according to the database schema that has been defined for the related table in the AXF file. For example, a property may be associated with a coded value domain that limits the valid values to a predefined list of valid values, which is presented as a drop-down list of values to choose from. Or a property may be associated with a range domain that, for example, limits the valid values from 1 to 100.

The Up NO ALT TEXT button (on the command bar) is used to accept the edits you have made in the Attribute page, and returns to the list view.

The cancel NO ALT TEXT button, cancels the edits you have made in the Attribute page, and returns to the list view.

Custom related table form

NO ALT TEXT

Custom related table forms are created automatically by the ArcPad Data Manager for ArcGIS 10. If present, these will replace the default Attributes page.

Validation of the data takes place at three levels with custom form:

  3. Data is validated according to custom rules defined in the form. You may define a rule in your custom form, to identify a logical result and prompt the user. For example if the user is entering pole heights, and a value of 1000 is entered, you may design a custom prompt that asks the user if they really want to add a pole that is 1000m tall!

The Up NO ALT TEXT button (on the command bar) is used to accept the edits you have made in the custom edit form, and returns to the list view.

The Cancel NO ALT TEXT button, cancels the edits you have made in custom edit form, and returns to the list view.

The Repeated Attributes button, enables you to capture the edits you have just made for the current record as a 'snapshot', to be repeated automatically for the next record you create in this table.
