The ArcExplorer Java Edition installation allows your end users to view ArcIMS Web sites created using the Java Viewers.
1. Set up the host machine
To provide Internet clients with the ability to download ArcExplorer Java Edition from an ArcIMS Web site, the ArcIMS Web site Administrator must verify that the directory install, and the file install.htm are located in your ArcIMS website directory (for example, /disk1/website/install).
If you are using Sun Java System Web server, you must make changes to support the use of ArcExplorer Java Edition. See the instructions for Configuring your Sun Java System Web server for ArcExplorer Java Edition.
2. Navigate to the ArcIMS media or the directory where you downloaded ArcExplorer Java Edition.
3. Make sure that the user account that installs ArcIMS has write permissions to the installation directory. Note: For security reasons, don't install ArcIMS as super user. ESRI recommends that you create a separate user account for installing ArcExplorer Java Edition.
4. Execute the SetupArcExplorer script to launch the ArcExplorer Java Edition setup program.
A J2SE JRE is required for ArcExplorer Java Edition. The ArcExplorer Java Edition setup program will prompt you for the path to your J2SE JRE location. Write permissions are required to this JRE's lib/ folder
5. To complete the installation, follow the directions on the screen.
