Using a license manager with ArcGIS Server on Amazon EC2
Beginning with version 10.0 service pack 1, ArcGIS Server on Amazon EC2 includes a license manager that you can optionally use to license ArcGIS Desktop. Your two options for licensing are as follows:
- Apply a concurrent use license that is distributed through the license manager.
- Apply a single use license (doesn't require the license manager).
The license manager distributes one license to the EC2 instance. If you have multiple EC2 instances, each will have its own license manager distributing one license. The license manager is not intended for distributing licenses across multiple EC2 instances.
Steps:
- Log in to the instance and click Start > All Programs > ArcGIS > License Manager > License Server Administrator.
- Click the Authorization folder.
- Click the Authorize Now button.
- Complete the Software Authorization Wizard using a concurrent use license file (.prvs). If you need to copy the license to your instance, you can use one of the approaches outlined in Strategies for data transfer to Amazon.
- Click Start > ArcGIS Administrator.
- Click the Desktop folder and click the Change button.
- Type LOCALHOST as the license manager name and click OK.
- Click OK to close ArcGIS Administrator.
- Click Start > All Programs > EC2ConfigService Settings and uncheck Set Computer Name. Then click OK.
This helps prevent your license from becoming untrusted when the instance stops and starts.
