Moving a file geodatabase to a new ArcGIS Server instance

To migrate a file geodatabase to the next release, move it from your existing ArcGIS Server on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instance to your newer release ArcGIS Server EC2 instance and upgrade, or apply the service pack or patch directly to ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Desktop on your existing ArcGIS Server EC2 instance, then upgrade.

Steps:
  1. If you are migrating to a new ArcGIS Server EC2 instance, proceed with the steps in Migrating your existing configuration to a newer ArcGIS Server AMI to launch a new ArcGIS Server instance and move your existing data volume to the new instance, then proceed to step 3.
    NoteNote:

If your file geodatabases are not stored on your existing data volume—for example, they are stored on the C drive of your existing ArcGIS Server instance—you must move the database files to your new ArcGIS Server instance. See Strategies for data transfer to Amazon for ways to move files in Amazon EC2.

  2. If you are applying a service pack or patch to an existing ArcGIS Server EC2 instance, follow the instructions in Applying an ArcGIS Server service pack to an existing instance, then proceed to the next step.
  3. Check the status of your file geodatabases to see if they need upgrading.
    1. Make a remote desktop connection to your new or updated ArcGIS Server EC2 instance.
    2. Open ArcCatalog and navigate to the folder in which your file geodatabases are stored.
    3. Right-click the first file geodatabase and click Properties.
    4. Click the General tab.
    5. If the Upgrade Status indicates an upgrade is not needed, you are done migrating this file geodatabase. Close the Geodatabase Properties dialog box for this geodatabase and proceed to step 6.
    6. If the Upgrade Status indicates the geodatabase can be upgraded, click Upgrade Geodatabase.

      The Upgrade Geodatabase tool opens.

  4. Leave both the Pre-requisites check and the Upgrade geodatabase options checked, then click OK to upgrade the geodatabase.
  5. When the tool successfully completes, click Close to close the geoprocessing tool progress dialog box.
  6. Repeat steps 3 through 5 for each file geodatabase.
