Applying ArcGIS Server service packs and patches on Amazon EC2
Esri is currently releasing new AMIs for each service pack shortly after the service pack becomes available for download. There are two possible approaches for applying the service pack. This help system provides instructions for both approaches.
- You can download and install the service pack onto your existing EC2 instance running ArcGIS Server, but you must follow special instructions provided by Esri. This approach does not require an AMI. See Applying an ArcGIS Server service pack to an existing instance to read instructions for this approach.
- You can use the AMI to create a new EC2 instance with ArcGIS Server running the service pack. You then migrate your data, services, and applications to the new instance. See Migrating your existing configuration to a newer ArcGIS Server AMI to read instructions for this approach.
Esri does not create new AMIs for patches. You can download patches directly onto your existing EC2 instances and apply them to ArcGIS Server.
If you move a file or enterprise geodatabase to a newer instance, you must upgrade it using the Upgrade Geodatabase geoprocessing tool. One way to easily open this tool is to right-click the geodatabase in ArcCatalog and click Properties > Upgrade Geodatabase.
