Accessing secured services from ArcGIS Desktop

ArcCatalog can be used to access secured ArcGIS services using the workflow described below.

1. Open ArcCatalog and start the Add GIS Server wizard.
2. Select the radio button to Use GIS Services.
3. Select Internet as the type of ArcGIS Server connection.
4. In the Server URL input box, type in the URL of the ArcGIS Server whose services you wish to consume.
5. Enter a user name and password that can be used to access secured services on the ArcGIS Server and click Finish.

All the services that are accessible to the specified user will be displayed in the catalog view.

If security is enabled on the ArcGIS Server and no user credentials are entered at Step 5, only services that are unsecured will be displayed. If all the services on the ArcGIS Server are secured, the catalog view will be empty.
