Registering JPIP Server with ArcGIS Server

To serve an image service with the JPIP capability, you must have installed ArcGIS Server and the Image Extension, and JPIP Server from ITTVIS. JPIP Server must be registered with ArcGIS Server to manage JPIP-enabled image services. JPIP Server can be registered through ArcGIS Server Manager or ArcCatalog.

To set up ArcGIS Server, you must run the postinstallation process along with other steps outlined in the Getting started after install section of the ArcGIS Server Help.

How to register with ArcGIS Server using ArcGIS Server Manager

Steps:
  1. Click the GIS Server tab in Manager and click Host Machines.
  2. Click Register JPIP Server.
  3. Type the JPIP Server machine name in the Host Name text box.
  4. Type the port number in the Port text box if it is not the default 8080.
  5. Optionally, enter the user name and password required to connect to the JPIP Server and click OK.

If JPIP Server is obtained from ITTVIS, you need to provide your user name and password in this step.

TipTip:

  • If you receive the error "Invalid host name or port number," check JPIP Server. Usually this means JPIP Server is not started or the JBoss startup is not bound to the supplied host name.
  • To unregister, click Unregister JPIP Server on the same page.

How to register with ArcGIS Server using ArcCatalog

Steps:
  1. Make an administrative connection to your server.
  2. Right-click the server in the Catalog tree and click Server Properties.
  3. Click the Hosts tab.
  4. Click the Register JPIP Server button.
  5. Type the JPIP Server machine name in the Host Name text box.
  6. Type the port number in the Port text box if it is not the default 8080.
