System requirements to install ArcSDE for Oracle

ArcSDE has certain minimum computer system requirements. Your computer system must meet these minimum requirements to successfully install and use ArcSDE for Oracle.

Which operating system (OS) is supported depends on the release of Oracle and ArcSDE being used. For specifics and the latest information on supported operating system and database release for ArcSDE for Oracle, see http://resources.arcgis.com/ and navigate to the ArcGIS Server System Requirements.

When you install Oracle, be sure to install the Oracle Text component. If you do not, geodatabase creation or upgrade will fail.

NoteNote:

To use Oracle's native XML type, you must use Oracle 11.1.0.7 with one of the following patches applied:

  • 8593954—For Linux 32 bit and 64 bit, Sun Solaris, HP-UX Itanium, and IBM AIX
  • 8655458 (patch 15)—For Windows 32 bit
  • 8655460—For Windows 64 bit

Also note that if there is no native ArcSDE build for the operating system of the server hosting the Oracle database, then there is no support for SQL access to ST_Geometry or ST_Raster. ST_Geometry and ST_Raster storage can be used from ArcSDE clients, but SQL access to this data is not supported.

Disk space

Installation of ArcSDE requires approximately the following amount of disk space:

Server environment

Approximate disk space

HP-UX Itanium

186 MB

IBM AIX

150 MB

Red Hat Linux

160 MB

SUSE Linux

160 MB

Sun Solaris

119 MB

Windows

140 MB

Fortran run-time environment

ESRI distributes IBM version 08.01.0000.0000 Fortran Run-Time Environment (RTE) libraries with ArcSDE. An additional Fortran RTE is not required. A Fortran RTE that is already installed on a machine will be used by the system and for all other applications other than ArcSDE.

Older versions of ArcSDE use their own Fortran RTEs, located in $SDEHOME/lib, and work fine on AIX. However, you must have a LIBPATH variable set to $SDEHOME/lib:/usr/lib:/lib with the appropriate $SDEHOME to work correctly.

IBM file sets required

The following file sets (or higher releases) are required for installations on IBM operating systems:

xlC.aix50.rte 9.0.0.0

xlC.msg.en_US.rte 9.0.0.0

xlC.rte 9.0.0.0

Oracle requirements

Separate from ArcSDE requirements, Oracle has certain minimum computer system requirements. Your computer system is required to meet these minimum requirements to successfully install and use Oracle. For the latest in Oracle's requirements, consult the Oracle Web site at http://www.oracle.com/index.html.
