Installing ArcGIS Mobile

The ArcGIS Mobile installation requires the user to be a system administrator or have elevated privileges in a deployment environment.

The ArcGIS Mobile setup allows you to chose a predetermined set of installation features or choose only the specific features required for your installation.

Use the ArcGIS Mobile Project Center to create and manage a catalog of mobile projects for deployment and use with ArcGIS Mobile field applications.

The Windows Application is a task-driven Windows touch application used to complete mobile projects.

The Windows Mobile Application is a task-driven Windows Mobile application used to create mobile projects.

The Software Developer Kit extends Visual Studio with additional components and controls that can be used to extend ESRI field applications and create custom mobile applications. The Software Developer Kit feature requires Visual Studio 2008 SP1 to be installed on your machine.

Geoprocessing Tools can be used to extract a mobile cache from a map document and check updates directly into your database.

The ArcGIS Mobile setup will display a dialog box if conflicting versions of these products exist on your machine. If so, you must uninstall them, then run the ArcGIS Mobile setup again to proceed with the installation.

All ArcGIS 10 products can exist together.

Use the Windows Control Panel Add/Remove to uninstall conflicting products.

How to prepare to install ArcGIS Mobile

  1. Verify that your computer meets the system requirements. For system requirement information, see ArcGIS Mobile System Requirements.
  2. Log in as a user with administrative privileges.
  3. Close all applications on your computer.
  4. Run setup.exe to launch the setup program.

How to install ArcGIS Mobile

  1. During the installation, you will be asked to read the license agreement and accept it, or exit if you don't agree with the terms.
  2. At the Select Features dialog box, select the features you would like to install or accept the defaults. To install a feature, click the drop-down arrow to the left of the feature. From the list, select Will be installed on local hard drive.
  3. For the remainder of the installation, follow the instructions on the screen.
NoteNote:
  • The Geoprocessing Tools feature requires ArcGIS Desktop 10 to be installed. If you install the Geoprocessing Tools feature before installing ArcGIS Desktop 10, the Mobile geoprocessing toolbox will not be available. In this case, after you have installed ArcGIS Desktop 10, you will need to repair your ArcGIS Mobile installation. You can repair your installation by relaunching the ArcGIS Mobile setup.exe or by launching the setup again using the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs. Select the Repair option to reinstall.
  • The Software Developer Kit feature requires Visual Studio 2008 SP1 to be installed on your machine. If Visual Studio 2008 SP1 is not detected on your machine, the Software Developer Kit will be unavailable.

Uninstalling previous ArcGIS products

If the following products are installed on your machine and are a version previous to ArcGIS 10, they must be uninstalled before proceeding with the ArcGIS Mobile 10 setup. All ArcGIS products previous to version 10 must be uninstalled before installing any ArcGIS 10 product.
