Adding an operational map service
A mobile map comprises both operational and basemap layers. Operational map layers contain GIS features that you can collect, query, and update in the field. Using a map service as the source of your operational map layer, you can also synchronize changes from the field using the ArcGIS Mobile application.
To use a map service as an operational map layer within your mobile map, you must first publish an ArcMap map document as a map service. When publishing, you must enable mobile data access capabilities to use the map within Mobile Project Center. If you plan to synchronize changes from the field, you will also need to consider how your Web-enabled mobile device will access that service (either using a VPN client on the mobile device or by exposing the map service outside your corporate firewall).
