View Map task
You can use the View Map task to explore your mobile map in various ways.
Map navigation
The View Map task includes a set of menu items and buttons that you can use to change the scale of the map:
- Zoom In
- Zoom Out
- Pan or Recenter Map
- Zoom to Full Extent
- Zoom to Initial Extent
If you have connected a GPS receiver to ArcGIS Mobile, you can recenter the map using the Keep GPS In View setting in the map menu. By enabling this feature, the map will automatically pan when the GPS position reaches the edge of the map.
If you change the map extent or position using the map navigation options mentioned above, you will disable the Keep GPS In View setting.
Map layer visibility
Using the View Map task, you can change the visibility of map layers using the Layer Visibility menu item. The Layer Visibility menu contains a list of all operational layers and each basemap layer as well.
Identify features
If you tap Identify Features from the menu, you can tap or drag a box across the features you want to identify. A list of what was found is presented. You can browse each identified feature on the map, view the feature's attributes, edit its attributes, delete the feature, or add it to the work list task.
Measure distance, area, or features
Tapping Measure from the menu, you can measure distance or length, area, or a feature. Measure will use the snapping settings. To change the snapping settings, access the application settings and tap Snapping Settings. From the Snapping Settings page, you can enable or disable snapping and also set a distance value for the snapping tolerance. Measure will then enable snapping to the vertices of all operational map layers.
The result of what you measure can be displayed in different units.
Dim basemap
If you are using ArcGIS Mobile for Windows, you can dim the basemap as well. This feature can be used to provide contrast between the operational map layers and the basemap layer.
