Add a new feature

If you're working with a map containing an editable layer, you can add new features to the map by taking the following steps:

Steps:
  1. Open the map containing the editable layer to which you want to add a feature.

For an example of the editing workflow of the application, open any of the Collection Sample maps. They are publically available through the Map Hub's gallery panel when connected to ArcGIS Online and contain editable layers.

  2. Tap the tools icon Tools icon on the app bar to display the Tools menu.

  3. Tap collect feature.

The Select a feature type page displays, showing the types of features available for collection for each of the editable layers in the map.

    TipTip:

The Select a feature type page uses a jump list. If you tap the heading for any of the layers (for example, Facilities in the previous screen shot) a list appears that lets you jump directly to any of the layer's feature choices by tapping that layer in the jump list. This saves you from having to scroll through all the other types to reach a particular layer's feature types.

  8. Following the hint text and using either the GPS or tapping the map, provide the geometry of the feature.
    • If the GPS symbol is not already on the map, tap the me icon Me icon. to show your current location on the map.
    • If the GPS symbol is on the map, tap the me icon (either tracking Me icon when tracking. or not tracking Me icon when not tracking.) to turn it off.
    • Tap the use location icon Use location icon. to add a point at the current GPS location.
    • Once you have placed one or more points on the map, the undo icon Undo icon. will be enabled. Tap undo to undo your previous change to the geometry. Clearing the geometry also clears the history of changes, so this icon disables again after the geometry is cleared.
